My Review of Your Pie in Athens
One of the things I enjoyed most about going to school at the University of Georgia in Athens was all the fantastic food in the Athens area. The city had an abundance of unique, delicious food that was easy to get to and very affordable.
Athens also seemed to always have new restaurants opening and seeing if they could break into the lucrative UGA market.
During my last year as a Bulldog, an unknown pizza shop named Your Pie opened in town. It was an interesting concept in that you built your own pizza with a variety of toppings or you could choose from some suggested pizza creations. Similar to Subway, you order at the counter and then walk through the line as your pizza is made.
I always loved Your Pie and still love eating there when I go back to Athens because it’s a great place to get a fresh pizza. The dough is hand-tossed to order and then you watch your pizza get cooked in a brick-oven right in front of you as you stand in line. There’s no need to worry about a pie being made ahead of time and simply re-heated later with extra toppings - each pizza is handcrafted here.
Actually, it’s much more than affordable. For what you get, this is a great deal. All the pies are 10-inches and most of them range from $7 to $9 depending on the toppings you want. One of my favorites is The Lineage, which features traditional marinara sauce, pepperoni, sausage, peppers, olives, onions, mushrooms and mozzarella. It’s a relatively traditional pizza, but it’s just one of a number of pizzas I’d recommend.
The toppings are delicious and I love the texture and flavor of a pizza crust that’s been cooked in a brick oven. To make it even better, they also offer the option of a white, wheat or gluten free crust. When it comes to pizza, Your Pie has all the bases covered.
There are many things I miss about living in Athens. Being able to regularly eat at Your Pie is one of those things. Hopefully, as they continue to expand, they’ll consider the Roanoke Valley as a potential future market. If so, I’ll do my best to keep them in business.
