The Southwest Wrap from The Fresh Market was one of my recent lunches of choice. It was one of the wraps offered in the deli section of the store where they serve various pre-made wraps, sandwiches, pizzas, and other items. I'm torn over my review of the Southwest Wrap so I'm going to break this into two sections.
For a wrap, it looks fantastic. I don't know how well I capture the colors of food with the camera on my phone but it really stood out when I was trying to decide which wrap I wanted. The bright yellow from the corn salad really caught my attention. The taste of the corn salad is also one of the positives of the wrap. There are some red peppers mixed in and a balsamic vinegar that creates some nice Southwestern flavors. Lastly, the Southwest Wrap is huge. It's packed with strips of grilled chicken and the rest of the ingredients. I only ate half of it for lunch and then saved the other half for later.
Because it's so huge, it's difficult to pick up. Then, because it's pre-made, some of the juices have had time to soak into the wrap, which causes it to fall apart, leaving you with a big mess. It's nothing a fork can't handle but the soggy wrap doesn't taste particularly good. Another thing I struggled with was the mixing of the flavors and ingredients. I couldn't get a balanced bite. It was either a bite full of chicken, or a bite full of cheese, or a bite full of corn. It was tough to get a bite with a good combination of everything. And finally, I don't understand the decision to put whipped cream cheese on this wrap. I normally like cream cheese but I wasn't a fan of it on the Southwest Wrap at all.
I don't think I'd get the Southwest Wrap again. It drew me in by appearances but the flavors didn't come together like I thought they would. And there are too many other good options at The Fresh Market that I'd rather have instead.
