In my attempt to try all the Rotisserie sandwiches at The Fresh Market, I picked up the Carolina Style BBQ Sandwich for lunch when I saw it was one of the specials for the week. It's usually $6.99 but it was on sale for $5.99. It also came with a small side of the featured salad of the week (seafood salad) and a pickle spear.
This is only the second of the rotisserie sandwiches I've tried and it doesn't quite live up to the quality of the Harvest Pork & Brie Sandwich, which is delicious. I like the coleslaw and the pork loin is excellent but I'm a little picky when it comes to things having BBQ sauce. There's nothing wrong with the flavor of the honey BBQ sauce but you can tell it's just spread on top of the meat when the sandwich is prepared. In order for meat to have a good flavor with BBQ sauce, you have to give the sauce some time to cook and marinate in the meat.
I also can't get into Kaiser rolls. They really don't do anything for me. I think they're often too big for a sandwich and too many bites are nothing but bread. I'd rather a sandwich have smaller/less quality bread so that you can taste more of the other ingredients.
Don't get me wrong. The Carolina Style BBQ Sandwich at The Fresh Market isn't bad. It's pretty good. However, I think a couple small tweaks would take it from good to great.
