I didn’t until yesterday when I happened to check out the Popeyes website and saw it listed as one of the current specials.
No. I don't normally browse fast food websites. But, what if I did?!?! IS THAT SUCH A BAD THING?
I’ve written before about my love of chicken and waffles, and I felt like an immediate trip to the Popeyes in Roanoke was necessary to give these a try.
For $4.99, you get three chicken tenders, fries and a biscuit. Best deal in town? It’s quite possible.
When it comes to portion size, the chicken tenders at Popeyes are no joke. I’m thinking one Popeyes tender is the equivalent of three chicken tenders from Zaxby’s. I don’t consider myself a lightweight, but I hit a wall after my second waffle tender.
I saw a combo meal on the menu where someone could order five waffle chicken tenders along with fries, biscuit and a drink. Godspeed to whoever tries to tackle that meal.
It’s not as good as an authentic plate of chicken and waffles, though it’s certainly a worthy alternative.
The tenders also come with a side of honey maple dipping sauce. Unfortunately, it’s not as magical as it sounds. I found the sauce to be too thick and I’d prefer to just have a couple packets of honey instead.
Still, there’s plenty of flavor in the tenders that dipping sauce or honey isn’t necessary.
And for $5, this combination of chicken & waffles is tough to beat.
