Find Your Roots
The quality of service at Local Roots is excellent. On Friday night, our waiter, Ryan, did an outstanding job throughout the course of our meal. He answered our questions about the menu, which was no small task considering how many things we asked about. He was also very professional in constantly checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. From the time we sat down to when we walked out the door, he treated us like we were his only table for the evening. It's this type of quality that helps Local Roots stand out compared to other restaurants in the area.
Similar to River and Rail, Local Roots is a restaurant that you wouldn't normally expect to find in Roanoke. It's more like a place you would expect to find in a bigger city or a place with a more eclectic culture. The restaurant features an open atmosphere that feels vibrant and welcoming. The hardwood floors and lighting provide warmth, and the room really comes to life when the restaurant is full. It's one of those unique places where adventurous foodies can come together and enjoy an interesting meal. Fortunately, there seem to be more restaurants of it's kind popping up around the Roanoke Valley.
Some people might consider this to be a negative, but I feel like every bite during a meal at Local Roots will offer something different. The menu, which changes frequently, features local products in some incredible ways. Whether it's a different take on a traditional sauce, a surprising blend of vegetables as a side dish, or a meat that is prepared with a special combination of spices, a meal at Local Roots offers you the opportunity to enjoy food in ways you might not have thought of before. At times, I felt like I was a judge on Iron Chef getting to enjoy plates that were featuring the best of the chef's imagination.
