I haven’t posted anything new in the past couple days, which is a bit unusual for me, especially considering how much content I’ve written for this blog over the past year.
There have been a lot of times over the past couple weeks when I’ve wondered if I can maintain the pace I’ve been trying to keep with my writing. Then I asked myself the more important question - do I want to keep up the pace?
I still don’t know the answer, but life has made me take a step back lately.
I’ve tried to stay behind the curtain here on this site and I don’t talk much about my personal life, which is a conscious decision I make. However, even though I’ll often joke about it, I actually do have a life outside of just writing and keeping up this blog.
It’s been a very crazy period at work for me over the past few weeks. As much as I wish I could just write about food and sports for a living, I have a job that has nothing to do with this blog. It takes priority and it also takes a lot of my creative energy and attention. Lately, there have been many times where I don’t care about writing because of what I’ve already been working on all day.
Along with that, my wife and I just purchased our first house. It’s exciting and fun, but it’s also incredibly time consuming.
And lastly, I’ve realized that continuing to grow as a writer doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be on this blog. As of now, I contribute regularly as a writer for four different websites. All of those sites get more traffic than any of the content I post on From Ballparks to BBQ. I typically have at least four or five articles I’ll write in a week, and that doesn’t include anything original I might consider posting on this site.
At one point, I had a goal to post something new on From Ballparks to BBQ every day. At this point, I don’t think that’s possible. I still plan to post links to some of my articles on other sites, but I also need to get back to a place where maintaining this blog is something fun instead of a burden.
That could mean a number of things in the future. I’m still not sure what direction this will go.
It’s hard to believe I’ve had this blog in some sort of variation for over three years. It’s come a long way and opened up some fantastic opportunities. Most importantly, it’s been an awesome hobby.
Now, it’s come to a point where I need to take the proper steps to make sure it’s something that’s still an enjoyable hobby.
As always, thanks for reading.
