In the two games to open the ACC season, Duke has struggled with the opposing center for each team. Garrick Sherman was a key presence in the paint for Notre Dame, and he finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, playing a pivotal role down the stretch as Duke had no answer for him.
Similarly, Daniel Miller was the most effective player on the court for Georgia Tech this past Tuesday night. Miller needed more help from his other frontcourt teammates, but like Sherman, he also contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.
The reality is Duke will continue to have challenges with strong post players for the rest of the season. Without a true center, it’s something this season’s team will simply have to work around and counter with quickness and schemes.
Next season, Jahlil Okafor will become Duke’s answer in the post that other teams have to gameplan around. Until then, there are still quite a few games left in this season. And these five big men in the ACC are going to present some major issues for the Blue Devils.
