Cafe Beignet Review - New Orleans

My Review of Cafe Beignet in New Orleans

Cafe Beignet New Orleans
When you take a trip to New Orleans, it feels like at least one day needs to start by enjoying some beignets and coffee at a cafe.

Everyone talks about Cafe Du Monde as the place to visit, but I also read many reviews and thoughts from insiders who said Cafe Beignet is the place to go for beignets that are better than Cafe Du Monde.

The Cafe Beignet location on Bourbon Street is the type of place that makes New Orleans special.
It’s a quiet cafe tucked away in a courtyard where a couple musicians play jazz, yet you’re surrounded by historic architecture and just a couple blocks away from some of the craziest bars in the country. But, all of that seems a world away as you sit in the courtyard at Cafe Beignet and watch kids try to feed the birds who are also hungry for breakfast.

Cafe Beignet French Quarter
I placed the classic New Orleans tourist order of beignets and a cafe au lait. Three huge, freshly fried beignets covered in powdered sugar were then served to us at our table in the courtyard, and everything was right with the world.

I’m in full agreement with the folks who say Cafe Beignet is better than Cafe Du Monde.

The sweetness of the dough was the biggest difference I noticed between the two places. Cafe Beignet’s had more flavor while the beignets from Cafe Du Monde were too sugary for my tastes.

New Orleans Beignets
The Cafe au Lait was also a perfect way to kickstart the day. Sadly, I thought dipping the beignet in coffee would make a great combination...DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE! The beignet falls apart and you’re left with a soggy, nasty piece of dough at the bottom of your coffee cup.

These items are meant to be enjoyed separately.

I also recommend sharing an order of beignets with a friend. Because of the size and sugar content, trying to finish three of these bad boys is a lot to ask of one person. Whether it’s breakfast, an afternoon snack, or dessert, sharing is the way to go. And it helps you stay ready for the other great food around New Orleans.

Having breakfast at Cafe Beignet felt like the type of New Orleans experience you see in a magazine ad. We sat in the courtyard and enjoyed beignets and coffee while listening to jazz music.

We could certainly feel the good times rolling.
