Along with 25 craft beers on tap, Beamer’s 25 offers an outstanding selection of gourmet burgers along with some interesting appetizers, salads and entrees.
It’s located in the Lofts at West Station, which is part of the revitalization of Downtown Roanoke as a unique building that’s home to a restaurant and apartments. Beamer’s 25 is also one of the few restaurants in Downtown Roanoke that offers its own parking lot.
The restaurant obviously has some type of connection to Frank Beamer, the head football coach at Virginia Tech, and there is various sports memorabilia on the wall, but I’m not sure if it’s anything other than a name royalty where Beamer makes a little extra money. Actually, Beamer’s 25 is part of the Stephen Parry Restaurant group, which includes various places around the state of Virginia.
During my recent lunch visit, I had an opportunity to try one of the burgers I’ve heard great things about since the restaurant opened last year.
After the plate-o-onion rings, I had the opportunity to try the Steve-O burger. The burger is on a brioche bun and is topped with a sunny-side-up egg, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar and mayo. This burger was excellent.
The beef had terrific flavor, the bacon was outstanding and the egg and brioche helped provide a strong richness. I occasionally add ketchup and mustard to a burger, but adding anything to the Steve-O would be an injustice to the excellent work of whoever created this plate of happiness. I’ve written before about my love of brioche, but the Steve-O is just another reminder that a burger on brioche is always the best way to go.
We also ordered sides of french fries and tater tots to go along with our burgers, and I was really impressed with the tots. Both are served in very creative serving baskets and I loved the seasoning on the tots.
A meal at Beamer’s 25 is a step up from the typical sports bar. The atmosphere is a little more refined. The prices are a little higher. The TVs are a little fancier. The beer is a little more unique. And the burgers are MUCH tastier.
As for the Steve-O burger, I’d name it a First Team All-American.
