The Braves are 8-1 and currently riding a six game winning streak, which includes a three game sweep of the Chicago Cubs and a recent three game sweep on the road against the Miami Marlins. Now, Atlanta rolls into a big weekend series on the road against the Washington Nationals - an exciting battle between the two teams expected to compete for the division crown.
What should be most exciting to Atlanta fans is the fact that the Braves are winning with depth. When you consider that B.J. Upton, Dan Uggla, and Jason Heyward are all batting under .200 and Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann are out due to injury, it speaks volumes to the depth on this squad. Justin Upton is playing at a ridiculous level and guys like Evan Gattis, Juan Francisco, and Chris Johnson are stepping up their play.
Not to be outdone, the Braves pitching staff is also playing at an incredible level. Atlanta leads the league with a 1.99 ERA and hitters are only hitting .211 against Braves pitchers. It says something when Tim Hudson, Atlanta’s ace for the past eight years, has been the worst pitcher in the rotation and still has a 3.27 ERA. This group could get even stronger if Jonny Venters and Brandon Beachy are able to successfully return from injury.
People are right in that it is the beginning of a very long season, but Braves fans have to be excited about the direction their team is going.
