Whole Foods: Blueberry Pancake Gelato Review

Gelato: The Most Important Meal of the Day

Blueberry Pancake Gelato
When we were in Chicago, we stayed at a friend's apartment, which was only a short walk away from the Lincoln Park Whole Foods. This wasn't just any Whole Foods - it was one of the biggest in the country. It featured a huge selection of fresh produce, meats, seafood, nuts, and tons of options for hot food to order. The options you could order included diner food, Mexican, Asian, sandwiches, pizza, baked goods, salad bar, hot bar, and more. And for dessert, they had great variety of flavors of gelato.

Because we stopped by Whole Foods in the morning, we decided it would be a good idea to sample some gelato for breakfast. We tried the Carrot Cake and Blueberry Pancake flavors and both we were impressive. The Blueberry Pancake was so impressive that I decided to order a cup of it for breakfast. I figured since it had blueberries and small chunks of pancake, it could qualify as a good breakfast.

I liked that the gelato wasn't too sugary. The blueberries made it a little tart and the bits of pancake added a nice contrast of texture. They even went the extra step and mixed in some maple syrup, which really gave it an authentic flavor of tasting like blueberry pancakes.

Whether it's for breakfast, dessert, or any other time of day, the Blueberry Pancake Gelato at Whole Foods is always a good choice.

Duke Basketball: A Sigh of Relief for Rodney Hood

6/29/2013

Duke basketball coaches and fans have been sitting on pins and needles over the past couple days due to the health status of Rodney Hood. Hood injured his Achilles earlier this week while trying out for the World University Games with USA Basketball.

The initial mention of an “Achilles injury” had many worried that Hood might have torn the tendon and would be forced to miss the entire 2013-14 season.

2013 NBA Draft - Top 5

Evaluating the Top 5 Picks in the 2013 NBA Draft

Cleveland Cavaliers
1. Cleveland Cavaliers: Anthony Bennett - Power Forward, UNLV
By taking Anthony Bennett with the No. 1 pick in the draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers move yet another step closer to winning an NBA Championship before LeBron James wins anything! Wait...nevermind.

Bennett is a versatile scorer but I worry he will be one of those guys who doesn't have the right size (6'8", 240 pounds) or skill set to translate well to being a power forward in the NBA. Bennett needs to work on getting his weight down and needs to become much more physical in order to succeed. The fact that he went No. 1 is a sign of the top level talent that was available in this year's class.

2. Orlando Magic: Victor Oladipo - Shooting Guard, Indiana
As Jay Bilas said on ESPN Radio this morning, Victor Oladipo already has the tools to be a good NBA player and he'll be able to help the Orlando Magic right away. Let's not kid ourselves - the Magic could have drafted an orangutan and he would have been able to help them right away.

I'm a big fan of Oladipo. I think he's a guy who is willing to put in the work to get better and he's a relentless defender, which is tough to find in the NBA. He also brings an explosive element to his game that could really turn him into a great player if he can be consistent on offense.

3. Washington Wizards: Otto Porter Jr. - Small Forward, Georgetown
This is my favorite of the Top 5 picks. The Wizards are terrible but at least they keep acquiring pieces that seem to fit together. After drafting John Wall and Bradley Beal in the last two offseasons, the Wizards now have a small forward who appears ready for the next level.

Otto Porter Jr. is also someone Washington fans can get excited about. He carried Georgetown last season and showed that he was one of the most complete players in college basketball. As long as he avoids getting too many tattoos, he should be a good fit with the Wizards.

4. Charlotte Bobcats: Cody Zeller - Center, Indiana
To all of you on Twitter who said Michael Jordan will be disappointed when he finds out the Bobcats drafted Cody instead of Tyler Zeller - well played. Well played, indeed.

I feel like Cody Zeller is a player who will have a solid career on the NBA but no one will ever notice as long as he plays for the Bobcats. He's probably not a guy you can build a team around and won't make the Bobcats that much better, but I think he's a safe pick for Charlotte. I look at him as one of those guys who will be in the league for about 10 years and average eight points and six rebounds per game.

5. Phoenix Suns: Alex Len - Center, Maryland
Maybe I'm too old-fashioned but I consider it a red flag when a guy gets taken in the Top 5 of a draft and one of the first concerns about him is whether or not he plays hard.

There were times last season at Maryland when Alex Len was clearly the best player on the court. There were other times when you didn't even realize he was on the court. I know he's still learning how to play the game and he has great upside, but I'm always hesitant about expecting much out of a guy who already has a reputation for taking plays off and then you pay him a bunch of money.

Since he's going to Phoenix, I guess Michael Beasley could mentor him.
