Read my latest thoughts on Duke Basketball.
There’s nothing quite like Duke Basketball. The incredible atmosphere and mystique of Cameron Indoor Stadium. The passionate cheering and creativity of the Cameron Crazies. The unbelievable environment of Krzyzewskiville as students camp out to get tickets to a game. The four national championships and all the fantastic players who have their jerseys hanging in the rafters above Coach K court. And it’s a program led by Mike Krzyzewski, arguably the greatest coach in sports.
People hate Duke, but it’s rarely anything more than jealousy of a team’s amazing success.
I was raised in a house where ACC basketball has always been a topic of discussion. My dad went to N.C. State during the glory years of the Wolfpack program and Roanoke was always part of the media market for the conference, so we always watched ACC games and postseason play. I’ve always followed ACC teams, but Duke became the team I had a rooting interest in.
I became a Duke basketball fan in 1998. I was 11 years old and growing out of the stage where I simply pulled for the best team in America every year. Naturally, I decided to pull for a school that has a great team nearly every season.
I’ve had the privilege to attend a few games at Cameron Indoor Stadium and stand among the Cameron Crazies, as well as see the Blue Devils win an ACC Championship over North Carolina. One of the items on my sports bucket list is to see Duke play in a Final Four. Next time the team can do their part in this equation, I’ll figure out a way to be there.
I now have the opportunity to cover Duke Basketball for a couple different websites, including Duke Report, an affiliate of USA Today Sports. Most of the content I write about the Blue Devils is regularly featured on these sites, but I occasionally post excerpts here on my blog and provide links to the full articles. I’d love for you to check out some of my articles and feel free to leave a comment or two! And...as always, GTHC!
