Now Arriving in Roanoke: Food Trucks
During our past two years in Roanoke, I’ve been hoping for the food truck craze to catch on. Nicole and I have visited cities around the country where food trucks have become unique places where you can find some of the most interesting, flavorful and affordable food. We are always on the lookout for food trucks and trying something new. And it finally appears the food truck trend is starting to catch on in the Roanoke Valley.
Noke Truck has been making its way around for at least a year now. I’ve seen it on multiple occasions in Grandin Village and Downtown Roanoke but never had the opportunity to try their food. When I saw a note on Facebook recently saying they were set up for lunch within walking distance of my office, I knew it was time to give it a try.

This food truck appears to specialize in two particular items – tacos and crepes. They offer a variety of sweet and savory crepes along with their version of a traditional taco. Fortunately, the day I went for lunch, they had a lunch special for two tacos and ½ a sweet crepe. For my two tacos, I ordered one with chicken and one with carnitas, which is marinated pork (for those of you who have never been to Chipotle.)
I really liked both tacos. They reminded me of some of the tacos I’ve had in South Florida and tasted more authentic than tacos from most other restaurants in town. There was a generous portion of meat over what tasted like fresh tortillas. I doubt Noke Truck is making its own tortillas in the back of a truck but it wouldn’t surprise me if they are getting them fresh from a local Latin market.

To go with the meat on these delicious tortillas, the tacos are also topped with lettuce, a generous amount of cilantro, and pico de gallo. I think this combination of ingredients is great for a taco and I wish more Mexican restaurants would make them like this. I liked the carnitas taco a little bit more than the chicken but both were very good.
Along with my tacos, I also ordered half of a napoleon crepe. This crepe is filled with fresh strawberries and warm nutella and it’s also topped with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. It wasn’t bad, but there wasn’t anything that particularly stuck out about this crepe. Although, one could argue that anything with warm nutella is memorable.
I’m glad I was finally able to try Noke Truck and I’m so grateful to them for trying to bring the food truck trend to our area. For anyone in Roanoke who wants to know when and how they can find the Noke Truck, I suggest following them on Facebook. And I encourage everyone to branch out and give food trucks a try.
